Jase Mathews

Jase Mathews is a versatile singer/songwriter and cover artist based in the Scranton/Clarks Summit region of PA. Pursuing many different avenues of music, Jase is an accomplished musician, always striving to create and provide great music. Having started at an incredibly young age, music has shaped every facet of his life. As the son of musically gifted parents and with siblings sharing the same talents, the house was never a stranger to song. Beginning piano and trumpet before first grade under the direction of private teachers, including famed lead trumpet player Mic Gillette of Tower of Power, meant that funk, rock, and Latin music played major roles in Jase’s musical development.

By high school, Jase was well ahead of his years in trumpet and piano, only to discover his love for singing, guitar, and bass during those years. College brought much music education, while Jase simultaneously thrived in the Christian rock and CCM worlds. Whether it’s a Sunday in church, a Thursday night in a jazz club, or a Friday on the road with a rock band, performing has been a deep passion since day one. Creating music that sparks endless creativity and brings joy to listeners—much like the best food at a restaurant—makes music undoubtedly Jase’s passion and gift.

Jase draws inspiration from a wide range of styles, all of which have influenced his life at some point. As a kid, Casting Crowns and their ability to tell stories through song shaped his lyricism. In junior high and high school, the guitars of Switchfoot influenced his rock side, reflecting his West Coast upbringing. In college, big bands and niche soul/funk groups like Snarky Puppy and Vulfpeck opened up a world of harmonic possibilities. More recently, country music has taken a deep place in his heart, both through a developed love for the genre and in tribute to his wife, Chelsea, whose passion for country music has rubbed off on him. In short, Jase sounds like Jase. You’ll know him when he plays and sings, and if you listen closely, you’ll hear a lifetime of genres and bands woven into his sound.

Over the years, Jase has achieved many musical milestones. Growing up, playing with famous jazz musicians such as Mic Gillette, Carlos Santana, and Arturo Sandoval was the norm. In his early college years, he spent much time traveling and recording in both the jazz and rock worlds. He was involved in various professional groups and projects, lending his sound to many different albums.

Currently, Jase is pursuing a variety of musical paths. He is recording his first full-length album, set to be released in Spring 2025. He performs weekly throughout the Poconos and PA with a 3-hour acoustic solo show. He is also a member of Flatland Ruckus/Courtesy, a country cover band that serves as a Toby Keith tribute. Additionally, he teaches many students in a variety of instruments at his music studio.
