Joey Papadakos is a Pittsburgh based musician with a distinguishable style his followers refer to as "eclectic yet classic." His performance record predates his memories! "When I was 4, I sang "Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis at a party of around 200 people for my grandparents' 50th Wedding Anniversary. I haven't looked back since," he mentions. By the age of eight, he had attained a teacher who was able to instruct him on a little half-sized Fender guitar.
Joey's repertoire of cover tunes is recognizable to pretty much any audience ranging from a crowd full of retirees to a crowd full of college students and he's always able to find common ground to keep them all entertained. One of his earliest steady gigs was a Friday / Saturday all request show, so learning to be very adaptable was a prerequisite for the job. "When performing covers, I like to stay true to the original while also giving them my own spin," he adds. "Although I'm just one guy with an acoustic guitar, I strive to get the fullest sound possible. I'm not one of those guys who slows everything down and ignores the rhythm part altogether, instead I utilize the guitar to emulate some of the other instruments in the song and make it sound as close to the recording as possible."
Joey is not only influenced by legends such as Elvis, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan, but also contemporary heavyweights such as John Mayer, Pearl Jam, Coldplay, and Oasis. His taste in music is all over the board and he isn't partial to any one style, drawing inspiration from many genres of music. Performing is a cathartic release for him, but he also thoroughly enjoys satisfying audiences of all types. Plans for an EP in the near future are in place, which will highlight some of his original work.
